Ållonö Castle
Ållonö is a castle and manor in Östra Stenby parish in Norrköping municipality. Ållonö has been owned by, among others, the families Griphuvud, Gera, Kurck, Lilliehöök, Oxenstierna, Hamilton, Sperling, Ekeblad, von Yhlen, Du Rietz and Flach. The latter restored the castle to its original state between 1905 and 1913.
The main building and courtyard
Ållonö is located on the south side of Bråviken. The main building used to be located directly by the water, but due to land reclamation it is now a good distance away. It was built around 1670 by Baron Gustaf Kurck, a member of the Riksdag, to designs by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. However, the basement floor with its thick walls probably originates from the farm built by Göran Holgersson in 1584, which was probably made of wood. The building was destroyed by the Russians in 1719, but was rebuilt in 1740-1744.
Beginning in 1905, the castle was renovated under the direction of the architect Rudolf S. Enblom to the exterior as shown in Erik Dahlbergh's two plates in the magnificent work Suecia antiqua et hodierna 1690-1692. The walls of the baroque castle are coloured pink and the roof green, and there are also farm buildings, workers' quarters, a secret house, an orangery and more belonging to the castle. Notable among these are the Varudden fishing village from 1800 and a workers' residence from 1830; the rest of the buildings were added around the turn of the century 1900.
