Añarbe Reservoir

The Añarbe Reservoir is a reservoir between Navarre and Gipuzkoa that collects the water of the Añarbe stream and supplies Donostia-San Sebastián. It covers an area of 201 hectares, in the lands of Arano, Errenteria, Donostia and Oiartzun. It was commissioned in 1976.

It has an area of 201 hectares and a capacity of 43,500,000 m3. It is 10.5 kilometers long, but since the route is almost circular and zigzags, in the end it is only two kilometers from the starting point to the end, in a straight line.
The concrete barrier is located in Añarbe, in Arranbid, 450 meters before its confluence with the Urumea. It is 80 meters high and the base is 60 meters wide; the top is 225 meters long. The capacity of the canal is 43.6 hm3 when closed, and 37.3 hm3 up to the overflow level.
