On March 0, 1957, for the first time in the world hydropower industry, the right-bank part of the Angara was blocked from ice. In 9 hours and 30 minutes, this operation was carried out by 8 excavators and 220 dump trucks. In June 1959, the builders completely blocked the Angara, which made it possible to begin constructing the building of the hydroelectric power station and the channel dam. For the accelerated commissioning of the units, the dam was erected not immediately with a full profile, but in a stepped way, which made it possible to reduce the amount of concrete work and gain time. On July 18-19, 1961, the filling of the Bratsk reservoir began, after its completion, the level at the dam rose by more than 100 meters. The Bratsk reservoir has become the largest artificial reservoir in the world. On September 30, 1964, the last cubic meter of concrete was laid into the body of the dam. The first hydrogenerator with a capacity of 225 MW was put under load and gave industrial current on November 28, 1961 at 10:15 am. After 7 days, on December 5, the second unit gave current. This allowed the construction site to be powered by its own electricity. On December 12, 1963, units 15 and 16 of the Bratskaya HPP were put under industrial load and included in the network of the unified energy system of Siberia. The first six units were launched with an empty reservoir along temporary water conduits at lower elevations, which were later concreted. On May 9, 1964, the central control panel of the station went into operation, now only two people could control such a colossus. On December 14, 1966, the 18th last unit was launched, and the HPP reached a capacity of 4.1 million kW. So the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, at that time, became the largest in the world. On September 23 of the same year, she was named after the 50th anniversary of the Great October Revolution. Two more units with a capacity of 250 thousand kW were installed later. On March 3, 1965, the last meters of permanent railway track were laid along the crest of the dam. On June 16, 1965, the first freight and passenger trains passed through the dam of the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station, and on July 28 car traffic was opened. Portrait of Ivan Ivanovich Naimushin. He was born on March 25, 1905 (according to other sources - June 15, 1904) in Kotelnich (Kirov region). Independently learned to read and write and decided to study. Entered the MGI and graduated in 1937. As one of the best graduates, he was sent to the USSR NKTP. In 1939-1941 he worked at Glavgidroenergostroy and was engaged in the design and construction of hydroelectric power plants. In 1941, he became the head of the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Kokshaga River near Yoshkar-Ola (Mari ASSR). After the construction of this station was completed, he was sent to reconstruct the Bryansk State District Power Plant, blown up by the Nazi invaders. After the restoration of the Bryansk State District Power Plant, he supervised the construction of the Nivsky HPP cascade in the Murmansk region. In 1950, Naimushin was appointed head of the construction of the Kama hydroelectric power station. In 1954, Naimushin was sent to build the Bratsk hydroelectric power station, where he headed the Bratskgesstroy. He directed it from 1954 to 1973. Under his leadership, such giant enterprises as the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, Korshunov Mining and Processing Plant, the Bratsk Aluminum Plant, the Bratsk LPK, the Ust-Ilimsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as the cities of Bratsk, Ust-Ilimsk and Zheleznogorsk-Ilimsky were built in the north of the Irkutsk Region.
