Coussay Castle
It is a Renaissance castle, surrounded by moats, built by Denis Briçonnet in the early sixteenth century, it was the home of Cardinal Richelieu who stayed there several times from 1609 to 16189 and especially during his year of disgrace in 1617 Richelieu was bishop of Luzon and prior of Coussay.
In fact, the castle is a former priory. He was awarded by Louis Le Pieux to the abbey of Cormery. In 1520, Father Denis Briçonnet undertook the reconstruction of the house of the prior and built two pavilions. From his trip to Italy, where he worked from 1515 to 1519, as ambassador to Pope Leo X, he reported a certain refinement for the decor.
