Europe Bridge, Orléans
Record: 470 m
Main Span Record: 201 m
The Pont de l'Europe is a French inclined bowstring arch bridge crossing the Loire between Orléans, Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle to the north and Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin to the south, in the Loiret department and region Center-Val de Loire.
It is the fifth road bridge in service on the Loire in the Orleans area; the four others being from upstream to downstream, the René Thinat bridge, the George V bridge, the Maréchal-Joffre bridge (1958) and the A71 bridge over the Loire. It was inaugurated on November 20, 2000 in the presence of Lionel Jospin, then Prime Minister.
The finesse of the metal arch inclined on the edge of the apron, the elegance of the cable suspension, the original design of its Loire supports supporting the apron, and the major role played by torsion in the general functioning of the structure are the main elements that characterize this work.
