In ancient times, the English passing through here burned an ancient castle. Rebuilt, Admiral de Coligny had it demolished in 1569 because he feared a stronghold favourable to the papists, few elements remain. However, a star-vaulted chapel with five armoured keys, dated 1591, evokes a certain magnificence. It is deplorable that, almost two centuries later, when lifted from the rubble, the pantyless spared little of this lordly residence. Everything was in ruins in 1875 when the Marquis de Lambertie returned home and began to rebuild his ancestors' house. Thus the archaeologist Jules de Vemeilh and the architect Virot advised the Marquis and guided him to start all over again with sufficient success. During the last part of the 19th century, miracles occurred there with the recovery of pieces still standing or rubble placed on hold. The square courtyard was closed by the tower of the 16th century chapel, while the three-storey dwellings formed the other sides, roofs topped with pepper shafts and a walkway gave the whole this romantic and pleasant aspect...
