Lysice Castle

The Lysice Chateau is a building monument located in the town of the same name Lysice in South Moravia. One of the interesting features of the chateau is that part of the fourth episode of the television series Chetnice Humoresky (episode Beata) was filmed here. The castle is owned by the state, is open to the public and its administration is entrusted to the National Heritage Institute. It is protected as a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

History

Today, the chateau has a Baroque appearance, but it was built on the site of the water fortress of the Lords of Kunštát, the first mention of which dates back to the early 14th century. The Renaissance reconstruction took place at the end of the 16th century. The foundations of the castle garden were also laid then. The Baroque construction phase of the chateau, probably carried out between 1705 and 1711 during the reign of Count Antonín Amato Serényi, was most probably carried out by the Brno master builder Mořic Grimm.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Lysice was acquired by the Dubský family of Třebomyslice, who owned the castle and the adjacent estate until 1945. One of the most famous members of the family was the Austrian writer Marie, née Ebner von Eschenbach, who often stayed and worked at the castle. The building underwent significant alterations in the second half of the 19th century according to the project of the master builder Kajetán Vašíček; it is likely that the architect and then owner of the castle, Count Emanuel Dubský of Třebomyslice, also intervened in the form of the alterations. In addition to the interiors, you can visit the ornamental garden with an orangery and greenhouses and the unusual colonnade adjacent to the castle.

The last private owner was Albrecht Dubský, who confiscated the castle and later opened it to the public. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the building underwent a major renovation.
