Memorial to the Heroes of Battle of Kursk

The memorial In honor of the Heroes of the Battle of Kursk was erected on the site of the former height 254.5, where the mass graves of artillerymen and mortar men who defended this height and tankmen who liberated it in July 1943 are located.

The grand opening of the Memorial took place on August 3, 1973, on the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Kursk. The honorable right to light the Eternal Flame, delivered from the Mamayev Kurgan, was granted to the Hero of the Soviet Union, participant of the Battle of Kursk, N.N. Kononenko. The winner of the Lenin and State Prizes, the People's Artist of the USSR, composer Georgy Sviridov wrote Requiem for the Memorial opening ceremony, and it's being played here to this day. The authors of the Memorial project are the Belgorod artists A. I. Grebenyuk, V. I. Kazak, V. D. Leus, architect A. T. Bozhko.
