Monument to the Soldiers-Defenders of Novorossiysk 1942-1943
The monument "To the soldiers-defenders of the city of Novorossiysk 1942-1943" was opened on May 9, 1961 in the center of the city, on Freedom Square. The monument is a five-meter pedestal made of polished Yalta diorite, on which a bronze 13-meter sculptural group of three figures is installed: the central figure of the monument is a military sailor with a machine gun in his left hand, next to him is an infantryman with a banner, the group is complemented by the figure of a partisan girl with a gun over his shoulder.
The sculptural composition very expressively conveys the courageous images of the defenders of the native city. The sculptures of the heroes of the Second World War are installed on a fairly high pedestal. On the lateral sides of the pedestal there are bas-reliefs depicting the landing of landing troops on Malaya Zemlya and the meeting of the soldiers-liberators by the residents of Novorossiysk. The authors are: sculptors I. Shmagun and N. Timoshin. Architects - E. Lashuk and K. Mikhailova.
