Negratín Reservoir
Record: 567 hm³
Height Record: 67 m
The Negratín Reservoir is located in the northeastern part of the province of Granada, Spain, on the Guadiana Menor River. It lies within the municipalities of Guadix (through the Bácor-Olivar exclave), Freila, Zújar, Baza, Benamaurel, Cortes de Baza, and Cuevas del Campo.
Characteristics
With a surface area of 2,170 hectares and a capacity of 567 cubic hectometers (hm³), it is the fourth largest reservoir in the autonomous community of Andalusia, surpassed only by the Iznájar Reservoir (981 hm³), the Guadalcacín Reservoir (853 hm³), and the Breña Reservoir (823 hm³). The dam is a hybrid structure, constructed of gravity and earth fill with an asphalt facing for waterproofing. This solution was chosen because the left abutment was not stable enough to support a concrete dam.
The reservoir is intended for hydroelectric power generation and irrigation.
