Nikopol

Nikopol (Ukrainian: Нікополь) is a city and municipality (hromada) in Nikopol Raion in the south of Ukraine, on the right bank of the Dnieper River, about 63 km south-east of Kryvyi Rih and 48 km south-west of Zaporizhzhia. Population: 105.160 (2022 estimate).

Nikopol is the fourth-most populous city in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Located on a cape by the Kakhovka reservoir, Nikopol is a powerful industrial city which has several pipe producing factories, such as the Interpipe corporation, and steel rolling mills, such as the factory of ferroalloys.

Formerly the settlement served as one of the capital cities of the Zaporizhian Sich and was known as one of the main crossings over the Dnieper.

La Tumba del Atamán Cosaco Ivan Sirko es el lugar de enterramiento de Ivan Sirko, el Atamán Cosaco del Sich de Zaporozhian y del Ejército Bajo de Zaporozhian, que ganó 65 batallas y fue invencible en las campañas contra los otomanos y los tártaros, en el pueblo de Kapulivka, región de Dnipro, cerca del cual se encontraba anteriormente el Sich de Chortomlyk. Hasta 1967, el jefe cosaco fue enterrado en la aldea de Hrusivka, y luego volvió a ser enterrado en otra aldea porque las aguas del embalse de Kajovka se acercaron a su tumba. Existe la leyenda de que, según el testamento de Ivan Sirko, su mano derecha debía ser cortada para que los cosacos lucharan y ganaran batallas durante otros 7 años como si Sirko hubiera estado vivo.
