Port of Aveiro
Porto de Aveiro is a port located in the Aveiro district, within a lagoon which constitutes the Ria de Aveiro. It is an area classified as a Special Protection Zone (SPA) which is of special importance for a great variety of species, with regard to the conservation of wetlands. The purpose of this port is to handle various types of goods. It has several terminals where solid and liquid bulk cargoes and general cargo, among other goods, are handled. It also has terminals destined for the movement of fish.
This port supplies the central and northern region of Portugal, and central Spain.
It is managed by Administração do Porto de Aveiro, S.A. (APA), an exclusively public company which succeeded the now extinct Junta Autónoma do Porto de Aveiro (JAPA).
The Capitania do Porto de Aveiro which is located in Forte da Barra, in Gafanha da Nazaré, supervises the coast from Monte Negro, south of Cortegaça beach, to the south bank of Mira lagoon, and the ports, rivers, rivers and lagoons of the whole Ria de Aveiro and the River Vouga up to the railway bridge.
