The Siab Bazaar is located near the Bibi Khanum Mosque. The entrance to this huge marketplace is a three-winged arch with a mosaic in blue and light blue tones. The trading rows are protected by awnings. In summer, they protect from the scorching sun, and in winter - from wind and rain. Mainly fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, nuts, spices and famous Uzbek flatbreads are sold here. Many locals just come to the bazaar to chat and discuss the latest news. Bibi-Khanym Mosque. Bibi Khanym became the largest mosque in all of Central Asia. Its size is comparable to the Milan Cathedral. Just a few years after the end of construction, the building began to collapse under its own weight, and after the earthquake of 1897, it turned into ruins, like many buildings in Samarkand. Partially, it was possible to recreate the original mosaics and paintings on ancient buildings, as well as rebuild monuments after earthquakes, thanks to the photographs of photographer Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky. In 1907, he, together with the Russian Geographical Society, went to Central Asia to photograph a solar eclipse in the Tien Shan Mountains. Due to heavy cloud cover, it was not possible to photograph the eclipse, but Prokudin-Gorsky, who was very interested in color photography at the time, made a large report on Samarkand and very realistically conveyed the colors of the local architecture. His lens also captured the dilapidated Bibi Khanum Mosque, which was destroyed by another earthquake six months later. Bibi-Khanym Mosque. Samarkand 57

The Shahi Zinda Memorial Complex is an ensemble of eleven mausoleums for the nobility. They were gradually added to each other over the course of the 14th and 15th centuries. Shah-i-Zinda. Samarkand 64

In addition to Timur's relatives, many saints, philosophers, thinkers and scientists are buried here. In ancient times, this complex was one of the most important religious and cultural centers of Asia. Among Muslims, it was even permissible to replace a pilgrimage to Mecca with a visit to Shakhi Zinda. This is connected precisely with the legend of Kusam ibn Abbas. Shah-i-Zinda. Samarkand 65

The two-domed mausoleum is one of the most notable buildings in the complex, which belongs to the lower group of buildings. Previously, it was named after the mathematician and astronomer Kazi-zade ar-Rumi, Ulugbek's teacher. But during the excavations of 1977, archaeologists did not find his remains. Now it is believed that this is the burial vault of Amir Timur's wet nurse. Shah-i-Zinda. Samarkand 67

The complex got its name 'Shoh-i Zinda' (living king) thanks to a legend. It says that the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, Kusam ibn Abbas, came to Samarkand with his army to establish Islam. During a pagan raid, Kusam was wounded by an arrow, but managed to hide in the resulting crevice (according to another version - in a well) and survived. Shah-i-Zinda. Samarkand 75

The coffin of the prophet in the Khoja Daniyar mausoleum. Amir Timur brought Daniel's remains to Samarkand. According to legend, the horse that carried the ashes of the prophet stopped on its own at the place where the tomb is now located. Timur decided to bury the saint there. Another legend says that a healing spring gushed from the blow of the horse's hoof. After the construction of the mausoleum, the miracles did not end: the tomb of the prophet began to grow, and now reaches 18 meters.
