Mother's monument
The monument to the Siberian mother and her son, is a popular image at war memorials in Russia. Many monuments show mothers waving goodbye, or looking sorrowful, as their sons go off to war. There is a similar monument in front of the military museum, to Anastasia Larionova, who lost her seven sons in the war.This monument is located in Victory Park, which may be reached by Trolley Bus # 7 or Trolley Bus # 16, coming off at the second bus stop, after going over the bridge. After coming off the bus, use the pedestrian underpass and walk on the main pathway. The monument is located to the right of the beginning of the "road of war".
The sculpture is 9 meters in height, and shows a barefooted mother staring intently in the distance towards the road of war. Her hands are on the shoulders of her son, who is also barefooted and stands with fist clenched by his side, and the other hand resting on the hand of his mother. He also stares in the distance of the road of war. The mother represents the suffering of all mothers in the war, who lost their children and the son represents the youth who had to join the fight.Behind the sculpture is a birch forest which symbolises the nation (motherland).
