Tennessus Castle
Tennessus Castle or Thenessue Castle is a French castle located along the departmental road 127, the extreme south-east of the town of Amailloux in the department of Deux-Sevres, in the region of New Aquitaine.
History
Tennessus Castle was built in the 14th and 15th centuries, and its tower is already mentioned in 1404.
At the Revolution, its owners emigrated in 1792 and in 1793. A decree of the Directory of the Deux-Sèvres condemns the castle of Tennessus to the demolition, but the sentence will not be executed.
The restoration of the castle began in 1985 when the artist-sculptor Dominique Piéchaud Bordeaux bought the castle1. It is registered with the historic monuments on January 7, 1943, then the grounds of the gardens and their closing walls on September 28, 1993 and finally the communes on September 19, 2007.
The site is now converted into guest rooms
Architecture
The castle of Tennessus is surrounded by moats and the western part of the enclosure is preserved. It surrounds all the buildings of the farm that enclose a rectangular courtyard protected by two flared towers.
The house dates from the seventeenth century and was modified in the eighteenth century. The date of 1771 was then inscribed.
