Tüssling Castle
Tüßling Castle is located in the market town of Tüßling, 90 kilometres east of Munich, in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting. It is located on the edge of the town centre. As a court mark castle, it was the seat of the closed court mark Tüßling. The building was included in the list of monuments of the Altötting district with the object no.: D-1-71-133-6.
Exterior architecture of Tüßling Castle
Tüßling Castle, with its regular four-wing ground plan, its four octagonal corner towers with concluding onion domes, has all the characteristic features of a developed Renaissance castle. With its courtyard surrounded by arcades on three storeys, it can be regarded as a prime example of an Alpine type of "four-wing complex with arcaded courtyard". Tüßling was once a moated castle and is still surrounded by a moat today.
In order to maintain the uniform character, recessed windows were inserted into the façades to structure, enliven and adorn the castle.
The castle was built between 1581 and 1583 by order of Johann Veith Count von Toerring. Despite fire damage in 1712 and baroque installations, its exterior has retained its character unchanged.
