Twin Towers Guiyang
Record: 335 m
Twin Towers Guiyang or Huaguoyuan is a complex of two skyscrapers located in Guiyang, China. Construction of both buildings began in 2012 and was completed in 2018. Both towers reach a height of 335 metres and 74 storeys, making them some of the tallest buildings in China. They are also the tallest twin towers in China and the fourth tallest in the world.
The two towers are separated by a large six-storey retail podium which then extends to a further 5 floors underground. The towers were built simultaneously and emerged from a deep excavation of the entire site. Both towers are constructed with composite frames consisting of a reinforced concrete core and fully concrete encased steel outer columns. The towers are square in plan with chamfered corners and are framed with 9 structural columns on each side of the perimeter that reduce to 5 large columns at the base through the use of a diagonal column load transfer that spans four floors just above the main lobbies. The perimeter structural grid remains the same for the entire remaining height of the east tower; however, in the west tower, this grid is reduced to 7 columns on each side for the upper floors where a hotel is located above the office space.
