Úsov Castle

Úsov is originally an early Gothic castle partly rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau with Baroque modifications. It is located in the town of the same name in the Šumperk district in the Olomouc Region. Since 1964, the complex has been protected as a cultural monument.It houses the historical and natural history collections of the Liechtenstein Hunting and Forestry Museum.

It was always an important strongpoint with a large garrison, and even all the wars of the medieval period did not stop its expansion. It became a representative power seat in the 15th Century, and atypically was not reconstructed in renaissance style, but renaissance parts were built beside the already existing gothique parts. The complex is an unusual combination of both styles. Both the castle and the town were burned down by Swedes in 1643, complete repairs were done some fifty years later. The castle was nationalized in 1945, a large hunting museum established in 1898 can be found there with extensive assortement of hunting trophies from all over the world. Úsov Castle 56
