Vizovice Castle
The Vizovice Chateau is located in the middle of the town of Vizovice, about 15 km from the town of Zlín. In 2001 the castle was classified as a national cultural monument. The castle is owned by the state and is administered by the National Heritage Institute. It is open to the public.
History
The castle in Vizovice was built between 1750 and 1776 on the site of the former Cistercian monastery of Smilheim by Herman Hannibal of Blümegen. The architect František Antonín Grimm designed a two-storey building with three U-shaped wings in the then modern French Baroque style. In the second half of the 18th century, the castle garden was completed - an English and French park with sculptural decoration. The furnishings of the castle and the extensive collection of paintings date from the same period.
The interiors of the chateau are furnished with Baroque, Rococo, Empire and Biedermeier style furniture, with a lot of porcelain, an extensive collection of paintings with a rare set of Dutch paintings and many other valuable objects. The interior of the chapel in the left wing of the castle is the work of the master of Moravian sculpture Ondřej Schweigl, whose sculptures also decorate the year-round accessible castle park.
