Zbiroh Castle

Zbiroh is a castle converted into a chateau in the town of the same name in the Rokycany district of the Pilsen Region. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964.

History

Today's castle was built from the original fortified castle, which was founded in the early 13th century. Its founder is considered to be Břetislav of Zbiroh (Brechizlaus de Zbiroh, 1247) from the Sulislav family. However, as early as 1230 a report mentions certain brothers Chřen and Sulislav of Zbiroh. Later, the owners of the castle included the Drslavic family (Děpolt of Zbiroh), King Přemysl Otakar II, the Rožmberk family, King Sigismund, the Kolovrat family, the Lobkowicz family, or Emperor Rudolf II.
