Zeil Castle
Schloss Zeil is the residence of the descendants of the princes of Waldburg-Zeil in Leutkirch im Allgäu.
The 752 m high location of the castle on a glacial final moraine was already inhabited in the Hallstatt period. In the Middle Ages, a small castle was built by the stewards of Waldburg, which was canceled in 1598. Under Truchsess Froben of Waldburg-Zeil, the present four-wing castle was built from 1599 to 1614 in the style of the Renaissance. He had already had a church and a house monastery built. The surrounding gardens of the Renaissance were adapted in the Baroque, in the 19th century and in the 20th century to the taste of the time, but since the 1930s, but changed again in the spirit of the Renaissance.
