Zhodino

Zhodzina or Zhodino (Belarusian: Жо́дзіна, romanized: Žodzina, Russian: Жо́дино, Polish: Żodzino) is a city in Minsk Region, Belarus, located 50 kilometres (31 mi) north-east of Minsk. The city covers an area of 19 square kilometres (7.3 sq mi) and has a population of 65,451 (2021).

History

The settlement is first mentioned in 1688, belonging to the Radziwiłł family. It has had city status since 1963.

On 13 August 2020, Zhodzina was the site of the first large-scale worker strike in Belarus, at the BelAZ automobile plant, in protest of the contested results of the 2020 Belarusian presidential elections.

The D-126A roller, the D-147A brush cutter and the D-180V snow plow belong to this period (the tractors on which the equipment is mounted are not the products of the plant). And the car eventually became known as BelAZ-525. In 1960, the production of similar MAZ-530s with a carrying capacity of 40 tons was also transferred to BelAZ, but their production was limited to three dozen cars.
