It was recognized in the Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards 2008, (prizes that distinguish the best cruise ports in the world), as one of the destination points for the most outstanding ocean liners in the world during 2008, second only to Malta.
Nowadays, more than half a million cruise passengers have passed through the port city, a commission has been created to monitor this type of tourism and the Business Excellence Award of the Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena (COEC) has been obtained in the category of Tourism.
