La Iruela Castle
Castle of La Iruela – Jaen
The Castle of La Iruela is the most important monument of the town. As part of the Natural Park Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, is located on a cliff from where you have stunning views of the town and surroundings.
Appears that the castle was built by the arabs, the first foundations are prebereberes and this were built structures, but was conquered and elanrged in its structure in the thirteenth century by Christians, it hosted the order of the Knights Templar. Stressees its keep by their position in the rock.
Next to the La Iruela Castle are the ruins of the former Parish Church of Santo Domingo de Silos
Its architecture and scenic beauty was declared a Historic Artistic
in 1985.
Protection: Under the protection of the general declaration of the decree of April 22, 1949, and Law 16/1985 on Spanish Historical Heritage. In 1993 the Andalusian government gave special recognition to the Castles of Andalusia.

Introduction
La Iruela, two kilometers from Cazorla, is located in the Sierras Prebéticas of Cazorla and El Pozo.
The castle, small but astonishing, is located on the top of a steep crag in Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park. From the castle, impressive views of the surrounding area and of the town can be enjoyed.
