Montjeu Castle
The castle of Montjeu is located in the town of Broye in Saone-et-Loire, in a park occupied by a forest, ponds and gardens, on the mountain overlooking Autun.
Description
The construction includes a main building framed by two wings in return of squares flanked at the corners of four square pavilions. Stoned stones mark the angles of the buildings and the window frames. A door framed by bosses and surmounted by a broken pediment opens on the courtyard in the center of the house.
Ditches around the castle and gunboats in the pavilions on either side of the entrance are the only ones to evoke defenses. In the south wing, is the chapel covered with woodwork and decorated with paintings. In the North, the outbuildings form an imposing ensemble around a courtyard, with a gate, a monumental drinking trough and a dovecote.
To the east, in front of the castle, at the foot of the roundabout from which two lateral steps descend, a path of axis divides the flowerbeds and ends in a round basin which dominates a vast horizon of woods and mountains. The flower beds form compartments of embroidery with basins, dominated on each side by terraces planted with trees in staggered rows. To the west, a lawn with a pond in the center, flanked by rooms of greenery, forms a garden closed by a grid.
This castle is the subject of an inscription as a historical monument since December 9, 1929 and a classification since April 19, 19581.
In the case of private property, he does not visit.
