Victory Monument (Veliky Novgorod (Novgorod Region))
The Victory Monument is a monument commemorating the victory of the Soviet Union over fascism. It is located in Veliky Novgorod on Catherine Hill, in the southern part of the Kremlin Park.
History
It was built by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR dated January 5, 1968, in 1973-1974. The authors are sculptors G. V. Neroda, A. Filippova, architects A. Dushkin and A. Saikovsky.
The opening ceremony took place on January 20, 1974 on the day of the thirtieth anniversary of the liberation of Novgorod from the Nazi invaders. It was accompanied by festive events and fireworks. According to G. V. Neroda, the monument is designed to represent the great power of the Soviet state, the feat of its people in the war against Nazi Germany.
The construction of the object was carried out by Leningrad and Novgorod brigades of builders. The construction was carried out in harsh winter conditions with the traditional for the Soviet time summing up the surrender to the historical dates
