Port of Arica
Port of Arica (Arica Port Company)
The Port or Port Terminal of Arica «TPA», is used both for docking and undocking of merchant ships, and for international cruises. The port of Arica in 2008 became the main Bolivian export and import terminal.
This consists of five mooring docks and 270 048 m² of warehousing and other facilities. It has the capacity to transport 3.9 million tons of cargo per year. Since 2004 it has been managed by the Empresa Portuaria de Arica (EPA), a group led by the company Ultramar and a Peruvian consortium.
Despite its average size, Arica constitutes one of the six most active ports in Chile, 22 along with Iquique, Lirquén, San Antonio, San Vicente and Valparaíso. Associated with the port is the new Puerta América Industrial Park, with more than 240,000 m², which is associated with the Arica-La Paz Railway. Also related to this country is the Tarija-Oruro-Arica pipeline.
