A Palace Showing the Traces of Time

Shortly after ascending the throne in 1840, King Frederick William IV purchased the Sacrow estate to further beautify the Potsdam garden landscape. During the same period the king had the Church of the Savior erected quite nearby after plans by Ludwig Persius, who based its forms on an early Christian basilica. Peter Joseph Lenné took on the task of landscaping this prominently located royal park...

With his conversion of the manor house into a palace, King Frederick William IV completed the circle of palaces and gardens around the course of the Havel River in Potsdam. The palace building and grounds located on the inner-German border suffered considerable losses after World War II through various uses.

The palace with its delightful view of the New Garden and the Marble Palace has been available for use as an event location since 2002.

Blick vom Sacrower Schlosspark auf den See. Glienicker Brücke. Crossing over from Berlin to Brandenburg you can see the Havel river here that divides Berlin from Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg. The bridge is the Glienicker Brücke (Glienicke Bridge) that became famous during the Cold War since it was used to exchange captured spies. Thus it was often nicknamed 'Bridge Of Spies'. To the right of the bridge you can make out some parts of the Glienicke Palace. South of it, on the other side of the river, is Babelsberg Palace. In the north, the top of the picture, you can make out the Heilandskirche Sacrow (Church Of The Redeemer Sacrow). Sacrow Palace and Park 40
