Valdecañas Dam and Reservoir
Valdecañas Dam was built in 1964 on the bed of the Tajo River, in the municipality of Belvis de Monroy, province of Caceres, in Extremadura, Spain.
Dome dam with a height from foundations of 98 meteres and a crest length of 290 meteres. It has two spillways and its waters are regulated by gates.
Dome dam are built with reinforced and prestressed concrete. This type of dam used the theoretical foundations of the vault because it has a convex curvature facing the reservoir, and the load is distributed across the dam towards the ends.
Valdecañas Reservoir belongs to the Cuenca Hidrográfica del Tajo (Tajo River Basin) and has a capacity of 1446 hm3. Its basin covers and area of 36540 km with and average annual contribution of 4054 hm3.
