Château de Vigny
Northern France
Asking Price: 5.7 million €
Construction of this French Renaissance castle began in 1504, after the property and lordship of Vigny was purchased by Georges d’Amboise, the Cardinal and Archbishop of Rouen and Prime Minister to King Louis XII. After the Caridnal’s deathl in 1510, his nephew and successor, Georges II d’Amboise continued his building the castle, which would soon pass on to other members of the French aristocracy, including Anne de Montmorency, the powerful Grand Marshal of France.
The castle was ruins by the 19th century, but was restored in a Gothic Revival style.
Located only about fifty kilometres northwest of Paris, the original castle has a symmetry design starting with two towers flanking its main entrance, followed by two more towers at the corners. The entire castle, which is 37,000 square feet in size, is also surrounded by a moat, over which there are two bridges.
The property comes with 18 hectares of land, along with a 19th century chapel, greenhouse, and renovated outbuildings that house a professional kitchen and bakery.
