Catamarca inaugurated the Virgin of the Valley of Punta del Agua
The 13-metre high work of art was inaugurated in honour of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Holy Image in the Grotto of Choya in Catamarca and was built by the Riojan sculptor Alejandro Carrizo.
At the moment of the inauguration, the governor of Catamarca Raúl Jalil expressed that "this is one of the most beautiful monuments that have been made to honour the Virgin of the Valley, not only because of its size of almost 14 metres, but also because it is located in Punta del Agua, one of the last localities of the north of Fiambal before entering the Puna antofagasteña".
The journalist Jorge Álvarez, of the radio station "Valle Viejo", told that the sculpture is located in Fiambalá, more precisely in the area of the Tinogasta foothills, "famous for the dunes, the hot springs and the Dakar, where well-known personalities of the world have passed through the place, among them Maravilla Martínez, who attributed his return to boxing to the benefits of the hot springs".
The Riojan sculptor Alejandro Carrizo made a Virgin of the Valley "very similar to another image that he himself is making in San Fernando, which was to be inaugurated on December 8 but could not be inaugurated due to the pandemic," said Álvarez. This image is close to the capital in El Rodeo, near the grotto of the Virgen del Valle and the Ambato mountains. This image will be seen from the centre of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, the work of a businessman in gratitude to the virgin, who will promote a tourist enterprise, with restaurants and an artisans' fair.
