Descripción:Tauranga es la ciudad más grande de la Bahía de Plenty, de la región, ubicada en La Isla del Norte de Nueva Zelanda, a 94 kilómetros al oeste de Whakatane y a 109 kilómetros al este de Hamilton. El puerto de Tauranga es uno de los más importantes de la región. Alrededor de Tauranga encontramos playas increíbles, ríos y parajes donde podemos disfrutar de maravillosas vistas durante nuestras vacaciones en Tauranga.

Tauranga es una pequeña ciudad portuaria con mucha vida y animación, con un clima subtropical, y numerosas cosas para divertirse. La cultura maorí está muy asentada aquí, de hecho son muchas las casas, bibliotecas y librerías donde se puede informar más sobre la cultura maorí. Es un gran lugar para ir de compras, la ciudad de Tauranga es perfecta para pasear y disfrutar de las tiendas, sus bares y de sus restaurantes. El nombre de Tauranga significa “Puerto de Abrigo”. El Puerto de Tauranga está abrigado por el Monte Maungani y la Isla de Matakana. En este lugar siempre está ocurriendo algo, los pescadores salen, entran, los barcos de pasajeros, los portacontenedores, es un puerto muy transitado y con mucha actividad.

El Puerto de Tauranga (en inglés: Port of Tauranga) es el puerto de Tauranga, Nueva Zelanda. Es el puerto más grande del país en términos de volumen total de carga, y el segundo más grande en términos de movimiento de contenedores. El puerto es operado por el puerto de Tauranga Ltd (de NZX: POT). El puerto está situado en un puerto natural protegido por el Monte Maunganui y la isla Matakana, y es el único puerto natural entre Auckland y Wellington que ofrece un buen refugio en todo tiempo. El puerto de Tauranga emplea actualmente a 165 empleados permanentes y 20 empleados ocasionales, trabajando en una variedad de funciones.

Maersk Line and MISC Consolidate on Port of Tauranga

Tehy will both operate their Northern and Southern Star services through Tauranga

Maersk Line, the world’s largest container shipping line, operating in conjunction with Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC), have announced plans to relocate their Southern Star service to Port of Tauranga (with the new port rotation: Tanjung Pelapas (Malaysia), Singapore, Tauranga, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, Tanjung Pelapas).

Port of Tauranga Chief Executive, Mark Cairns, said Maersk Line and MISC’s announcement is great news. We have been working for some time to attract a new import ship call to Tauranga to better balance our MetroPort rail shuttle service to and from Auckland. We are very pleased to confirm the announcement by Maersk Line and MISC who will now operate both their Northern and Southern Star services through Tauranga on a weekly basis, with connections through to their South East Asian hubs.

Maersk Line and MISC s new port rotation will commence on Saturday 10 December 2011 with the arrival of the vessel Euromax and will be reviewed again in June 2012, when MISC are withdrawing from container line shipping globally

Port of Tauranga is commencing a significant capital expenditure programme over the next few years to ensure that the Port continues to provide customers with world class levels of productivity.
