Historic Oak View County Park

This pre-Civil War era farmstead features several restored buildings, including a farmhouse, barn, and carriage house. The site also features the Farm History Center, a cotton museum, 17-acre pecan grove, herb garden, and family cemetery. (919-250-1013)

JC Raulston Arboretum

With 8 acres and over 5,000 species and/or cultivars, this nationally acclaimed garden is truly a sight to behold. The site is used as a teaching and research garden as well, and you'll see NCSU students and staff members meticulously maintaining the grounds. Special highlights include the Finley-Nottingham Rose Garden (with over one hundred types of roses), an Arboretum (including buckeyes, heavenly bamboo, magnolias, and boxwoods), and the Klein-Pringle White Garden (a beautiful garden that was heavily influenced by the Sissinghurst in Kent, England). North Carolina State Capitol

Built in 1840 at a cost of three times the state's annual income, this marvelous example of Greek Revival architecture once housed all of North Carolina's state government. The impressive marble statue of George Washington in the rotunda is a replica of the actual piece that Antonio Canova created in 1820. Guided tours available. (919-733-4994)

RBC Arena

The RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) Center is home to the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes. Holding up to 21,000 people, it also serves as the home court for North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball. Other scheduled events include concerts, conferences, trade shows, and circuses. The Arena Club is also located here, with 9000-plus feet of meeting space. Pullen Park

Raleigh's Theatre in the Park and Aquatic Center are both located in downtown Pullen Park. For over 100 years, this park has offered a wide range of recreational activities for the entire family. North Carolina Museum of Art

North Carolina's premiere art museum, the NCMA has over 181,000 square feet of exhibit space divided into numerous galleries. The well-known European collection includes works from artists such as Claude Monet, Sandro Botticelli, and Peter Paul Rubens. Several galleries devoted to American artists feature works from such luminaries as Georgia O'Keeffe, Frank Stella, and Jacob Lawrence. Additional galleries present Oceanic, African, and Jewish ceremonial art. A popular restaurant and a museum shop are located on the premises. North Carolina Museum of History

Via informative displays, artifacts, photographs, flags and more, this beautiful, light-filled museum tells the story of North Carolina's history from Colonial times through the Confederacy to the present day. A replica of the Wright Brothers' plane is among the fascinating exhibits provided. This museum has so much to offer, one could easily spend an entire day viewing the displays. North Carolina Executive Mansion

Home to North Carolina's governor and family, this 1891 Queen Anne Victorian mansion opens its ground floors to the public during the fall and spring. William B. Umstead State Park

Lake Wheeler Park

You'll find Lake Wheeler due south of downtown Raleigh, past the NCSU Farms. This idyllic recreational lake offers some of the best fishing in the area (you must have a license!). A day spent at Lake Wheeler Park is a popular afternoon destination for those in the Raleigh area. Lake Crabtree County Park

Wake County's Lake Crabtree County Park is situated northwest of downtown Raleigh just off Interstate-40. Falls Lake State Recreation Area

Located just a few miles north of downtown Raleigh, this man-made recreational lake offers a variety of opportunities for a relaxing afternoon away from the traffic and noise of downtown Durham and Raleigh. Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve and Stevens Nature Center

Hemlock Bluffs and the Stevens Nature Center provide guests with unique opportunities to learn more about wildlife, conservation, and natural history. The center hosts several educational programs throughout the year, including chances to prowl Hemlock Bluffs to learn about rocks and minerals in the park, to go on insect safaris, and to search out different types of salamanders. 4 Pullen Park

Among the many things to do in the beautiful 66 acres of Pullen Park, visitors can take fun rides on the Gustave A Dentzel Carousel and pose for pictures with the "Andy and Opie" statue, inspired by The Andy Griffith Show. Families appreciate the miniature train, pedal boats, aquatic center, and playground. Other facilities include a café, tennis courts, and sports fields. First opened in 1887, Pullen Park was the first public park in North Carolina.

6 Marbles Kids Museum

7 North Carolina State Capitol

The North Carolina State Capitol Building is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Greek revival architecture in the United States. Completed in 1840, the building is one of Raleigh's best-loved landmarks. Up until 1888, the National Historic Landmark housed all of North Carolina's State Government. Today, the Governor and the Governor's staff conduct business on the first floor. This sightseeing stop is also located on the Raleigh's historic Trolley Tour.

Raleigh es una ciudad y la capital del estado de Carolina del Norte, Estados Unidos. Historia

Fue parcialmente destruida durante la Guerra Civil, creciendo muy lentamente hasta el siglo XX, en los años 20, fecha en la que se introdujeron las líneas de tranvía en la ciudad. Este hecho, junto a la creación en los años 50 de un parque tecnológico y la autopista conocida como Beltline hicieron que el crecimiento de la ciudad se acelerara. También el hecho de que la multinacional IBM se instalara en la zona influyó positivamente en el desarrollo de la misma.

Geografía

De acuerdo con la Oficina del Censo de los Estados Unidos, la ciudad tiene un área total de 299,3 km², de los cuales 296,8 km² son de tierra y 2,5 km² de la misma (0,84 %) es agua. En cuanto a las distancias con otras capitales importantes, se encuentra a 145 millas (233 km) de Richmond, Virginia, a 232 millas (373 km) de Washington, D.C., y a 143 millas (230 km) de Charlotte.

Mientras que casi todo Raleigh está localizado dentro del condado de Wake, una pequeña parte de la ciudad se extiende en el vecino condado de Durham.

Clima

Raleigh tiene un clima subtropical moderado, con temperaturas suaves en primavera, otoño e invierno. Sin embargo, los veranos suelen ser cálidos y húmedos.
