Dehradun, December 16 - A 107-feet high Lord Buddha statue built by Tibetan refugees is attracting hundreds of devotees and tourists here.

The religious complex has been financed mainly by a Thailand-based monastery, which promotes Buddhism across the world.

The beautiful monument stands out as a display of public will as locals, mainly Hindus, have joined hands with the refugees to maintain the massive complex.

Organisers say the domes inside the complex symbolised the Buddhist principles of peace, love and brotherhood.

"This place is specially built for the peace of the world, because, this stupa (dome) is based on Buddhist idea. Buddha has so much great compassion, so much understanding to make peace in the world, not only human beings but the entire living beings. This why we built this stupa," Mahandhin, the organiser of the religious complex, said.

The Tibetan community along with their religious leader the Dalai Lama, revered as the reincarnation of a long line of Buddhist kings, belongs to the Gelug school of Buddhism.

The Dalai Lama has been living in Dharamshala since 1959 after an abortive uprising against Chinese rule.

Visitors at the religious complex said they were fascinated by the huge effort that went into the construction of the statue.

"The main thing is that they built the temple by hand, they did the painting by hand. They finished it in three years. It is wonderful. Everyone should come and visit this place. It is marvellous," said Mandakini, a tourist.

Fue establecido en 1676 en el valle de Drachi por el gran Rey del Dharma Chögyal Terdag Lingpa.

Un linaje ininterrumpido de grandes maestros que se perpetua hasta nuestros días. Debido a la invasión china en 1959, muchos maestros tibetanos tuvieron que huir de su país para proteger sus vidas y las preciosas enseñanzas.

Mindrolling monastery (pronounced MINH-droh-lyng) is one of the major monasteries of the Nyingma school in Tibet. It was reestablished in India in 1976 and has since grown to be a recognized center of learning, with one of the largest Buddhist institutes in India. The Great Stupa, opened in 2002, will be of most interest to visitors. Measuring 185 feet tall and 100 square feet wide, its precise design transforms and harmonizes imbalances in elements and energies. Apparently it's the largest stupa the world. Inside, there are numerous shrine rooms with elaborate murals and sacred relics. Visitors can relax in the tranquil landscaped gardens surrounding it.

Mindrolling Monastery (Tib: སྨིན་གྲོལ་གླིང་དགོན་པ་) is one of the six major monasteries of the Nyingma school in Tibet. It was founded by Rigzin Terdak Lingpa in 1676.[1] Tendrak Lingpa's lineage is known as the Nyo lineage. Mindrolling, in Tibetan means "Place of Perfect Emancipation". It is located in Zhanang County, Shannan Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, China, approximately 43 kilometers east of the Lhasa airport, on the south side of the Tsangpo river.
