Project Description

The project involved construction of a 55 storeys high-rise residential tower comprising 244 apartments varying in 2, 3, and 4 bedrooms. It includes all building services, 2 showrooms on its ground floor, a separate parking building, a swimming pool and a health club. The adjacent building will be connected to the tower through a bridge at the mezzanine floor.

Video: Fire consumes Sharjah Al Tayer tower

A fire broke out early on Saturday morning in the high rise Al Tayer tower near Al Nahda park in Sharjah, damaging 102 out of the 408 flats and displacing hundreds of families.

As with the Al Baker tower fire in Sharjah in January, the flammable cladding of the building is thought to have contributed to the speed and ferocity of the blaze at the 42-storey which was home to 2,000 residents.

"The fire erupted at one side of the back of the building, on the first residential floor, and rapidly spread to the higher floors. We cordoned off the neighboring buildings to ensure that the fire would not spread," said Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence Department.

According to eye witnesses the fire service arrived on the scene after half an hour, but did not begin tackling the blaze until a further half an hour later, by which time the fire had spread significantly.
